How a Kerala Housewife Built a Rs 125 Crore Company by Starting a Business with Borrowed Money and Rented Space

When you’re on a mission, social judgment and environmental difficulties rarely matter. In today’s success story we will talk about Sheela Kochousph, whose story inspires us to pursue our dreams, whatever the obstacles.

Sheela Kochousph Chittilappilly, a housewife, founded V-Star Creations, a lingerie brand, with borrowed money. Although she was the wife of Kochousph Thomas Chittilappilly, business magnate and founder of V-Guard Industries, Sheela borrowed money and rented space to launch her business. At first there was criticism about the choice of product. But Sheela overcame all obstacles and turned her brand V-Star into a business worth over Rs 125 crore.

Early career and fighting days of Sheela Kochousph Chittilappilly

Sheela Chittilappilly, Founder and CEO of V-Star Creations, hails from Kerala. Her father was a businessman. After the death of her father, Sheela decided to work hard and be an independent woman.

Since she was little, Sheela has been interested in tailoring. Little did she know that this creative aspect would one day make her one of the biggest millionaires in Kerala.

The Birth of V-Star Creations by Sheela Kochousph Chittilappilly

Sheela, a homemaker, was always stubborn when it came to doing something of her own. Deciding to be an entrepreneur and build her own brand, she approached her husband.

Her husband, Kochousph Chittilappilly, owner of the V-Guard group, insisted that she start her business from scratch. She asked him to take out a loan and rent a building to start her own brand.

Sheela started her business with V-Star salwar kameez. She soon realized that there was less potential for salwar kameez and more potential for undergarments.

Sheela launched V-Star Creations in 1995 with an initial investment of Rs 20 lakhs. Initially the company began operations with 10 workers.

The first days were full of difficulties. People criticized her for launching lingerie products. The publishers also refused to advertise the product. But the tenacious Sheela decided not to back down and continue with her work which she considered was the best thing she was doing.

Today, V-Star Creations is the market leader in the underwear and lifestyle products segment, with a turnover of over Rs 125 crore. The brand manufactures bras, panties, camisoles, men’s underwear, children’s clothing, etc. V-Star has a presence in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and the Middle East.

Although Sheela has reached enormous heights in her career, she still aspires to conquer the international market through her brand V-Star.
