There are still two third-generation K-Pop male idol groups who have not started their military enlistment + completion status of all third-generation groups.


Many of the most talented third-generation K-Pop male idols are currently out of the music scene for a short time, serving South Korea’s mandatory military service, required of all men born in the country who consider themselves healthy and fit enough. Those who do not meet the physical examination requirements to perform their duties as active duty soldiers are often assigned to public service duties for a similar period of time.

Here is an update on the discharge progress status of all third-generation K-pop boy groups. Curiously, two groups of this generation stand out for not having members who have begun their mandatory functions as of 2024:

  • DAY 6 (2015): All members completed.
  • ONF (2017): All members completed.

  • EXO (2012): 2 members enlisted / 6 members completed. Expected completion date is 09/20/25.
  • BTS (2013): All 7 members enlisted. Expected completion date is 06/21/25.
  • WINNER (2014): 2 members enrolled / 2 members completed. Expected completion date is 12/23/24.
  • N.Flying (2015): 3 members enlisted / 1 member completed. Expected completion date is 02/25/24.

  • VIXX (2012): 3 members completed / 1 member not initiated.
  • GOT7 (2014): 2 enlisted members / 2 non-initiated members.
  • MONSTA X (2015): 1 completed member / 4 enlisted members / 1 uninitiated member.
  • UP10TION (2015): 1 completed member / 1 enlisted member / 5 uninitiated members.
  • iKON (2015): 1 registered member / 5 non-initiated members.
  • ASTRO (2016): 1 completed member / 3 uninitiated members.
  • SF9 (2016): 2 completed members / 1 enlisted member / 5 uninitiated members.
  • Pentagon (2016): 3 completed members / 1 enlisted member / 3 non-initiated members.
  • VICTON (2016): 1 completed member / 2 enlisted members / 3 non-initiated members.
  • Golden Child (2017): 1 completed member / 1 enlisted member / 8 uninitiated members.
There are still two third-generation K-Pop male idol groups who have not started their military enlistment + completion status of all third-generation groups.
  • Seventeen (2015): All members did not start.
  • NCT (2016): All members did not start.

Of all the groups listed above, the ONF is known to have the shortest “pause from military service” period, at only 1 year and 10 months.
