17th Lok Sabha ends today with BJP-driven discussion on Ram temple and role of PM

The BJP issued a three-line whip on Friday, directing its MPs to be present in both Houses on Saturday.

Sources said Parliament will pass a resolution thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the consecration of the Ramlalla idol at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

“Apart from the resolution, there will be a discussion on this government’s commitment in Amrit Kaal for Viksit Bharat (a developed India) and its determination to establish good governance like in Ram Rajya,” the source said.

“The discussion could be about what kind of country we want to build and what kind of leadership we should have,” the source said, adding that the Prime Minister could speak in Lok Sabha just before the end of the session.

According to the Lok Sabha list of pending matters for Saturday, former Union minister Satya Pal Singh, BJP MP from Baghpat, and Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena MP from Kalyan, will raise the discussion under Rule 193.

Earlier this week, demanding that the country be renamed Bharat, Satya Pal Singh had said in Lok Sabha that Modi was working to “establish Ram Rajya”.

“We will not rest until Ram Rajya is established. Mahatma Gandhi spoke about the establishment of Ram Rajya during the freedom struggle. The Prime Minister follows the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Maharshi Dayanand and Deen Dayal Upadhyay and has been working to establish Ram Rajya in the country,” Singh said.

On January 25, the Union Cabinet, meeting for the first time after the ceremony at the Ayodhya temple, adopted a resolution congratulating Modi on the consecration ceremony and said that while “the body of the country achieved independence” in 1947, the “Pran Pratishtha of his soul was done on January 22, 2024,” and “everyone experienced spiritual bliss.”

The resolution, read by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, called the Cabinet meeting “historic… Millennium Cabinet”. He hailed Modi as “Jananayak and a transformative leader” who had “fulfilled a centuries-old dream”, one that “Indian civilization had dreamed of for five centuries”.
