Alleged derogatory comments: Professor retired from the institution | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: An uneasy calm reigned outside Santa Gerosa School in Jeppu on Monday, after parents and students accused a teacher of making allegedly derogatory statements against Hindu gods, the Hindu religion and Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside the classroom. After the actions that took place throughout the day, the school management finally decided to dismiss the accused teacher.
Sister Anitha, principal of St Gerosa English Upper Primary School, told reporters that the teacher, Sister Prabha, has been remote and a new teacher will be appointed in his place. The move was to ensure transparency in the investigation to be carried out by district officials. “We will respect the final decision of the investigation team. Such an unfortunate incident had not occurred in the 60-year-old school. The incident has created temporary mistrust. We respect constitutional values and treat all religions and communities equally,” she said.
The decision was taken after a long meeting attended by Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP, City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, DDPI DR Naik and representatives of the staff and administration at the school campus after that the public along with the MLA protested demanding action. DC said the investigation will be completed as soon as possible.
Earlier in the day, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Bharath Shetty, VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell and others met the DDPI and submitted a memorandum demanding suspension of a teacher. The DDPI, for its part, had assured the protesters that they would examine the demands. After submitting a memorandum, parents and members of Hindu organizations arrived at the school. When the MLA expressed anger over the management’s failure to take proper action, the students also started making allegations against the accused teacher and another teacher. The MLA claimed that he was made to wait for four hours.
On Saturday, parents reportedly asked the school principal for an explanation for a teacher’s alleged derogatory comments in the classroom. The incident came to light after an audio clip purportedly written by a father and addressed to a VHP leader went viral. The father claimed that a seventh class teacher had made derogatory comments that hurt religious sentiments when he was taking a moral science lesson “Work is Worship.” The teacher had allegedly talked about Ram Mandir and Prime Minister Modi in the classroom.
