Taking X on its official account, the Congress MLA announced his resignation from the party after being associated for almost 48 years.
Congress MLA Baba Siddique, representing Mumbai’s high-profile Bandra area, announced his resignation from the Congress on Thursday.
Siddique, a prominent minority Congress figure from Mumbai, also served as a minister when the Congress-NCP coalition was in power.
Siddique addressed X and said, “I joined the Indian National Congress party when I was a young teenager and it has been a significant journey that has spanned 48 years. Today I am resigning as a senior member of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect.”
While he thanked everyone who has been a part of his journey, he said there are many things he would have liked to express, but some things are better left unsaid.
The Congress MLA is reportedly suspected of joining the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
The move comes days after the Election Commission of India recognized the Ajit Pawar faction as the true National Congress Party (NCP).
Earlier in January this year, Congress leader Milind Deora resigned from the Congress, ending his family’s 55-year relationship with the grand party.
Talking to the media about his resignation from the Congress, Deora had said, “I am walking the path of vikas (development).”
