How a Mumbai Activist Planned the Killing of Team Leader Thackeray on Facebook Live

Mauris Noronha shot dead Abhishek Ghosalkar on Facebook Live

New Delhi:

Mauris Noronha, the man who shot dead the son of Shiv Sena (UBT) during a live session on Facebook, had been planning his “revenge” for some time. Abhishek Ghosalkar, son of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, could not have suspected Noronha’s plan when he was led to believe that the meeting with Noronha was aimed at building bridges between them.

Mauris ‘Bhai’, as Noronha was known on social media, was a poker player who received praise for helping the poor during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As he became popular for his philanthropic work, he also became interested in politics, which led him to decide to run for corporate election.

But there was a problem. The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader’s son did not want Noronha to contest and publicly objected to his candidature.

A woman then filed a complaint alleging that Noronha had raped her. For this case he was sentenced to five months in prison. He suspected that Ghosalkar was the architect of the rape allegation to derail his corporate plan.

Finally, Noronha made the plan to kill Ghosalkar by first gaining his trust. Noronha made elaborate plans to send the message that he was no longer interested in the corporation’s election. This would have made Ghosalkar lower his guard.

On the day of the shooting, Noronha had invited Ghosalkar to a Facebook live session on the pretext of extending an olive branch and telling the public that the two had become friends.

Noronha put up Ghosalkar banners to pretend to support the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader’s son in his own candidacy.

The result of Noronha’s planning is that Ghosalkar agreed to meet him for the Facebook live session. In the video, the two chat amicably, until Noronha gets up and shoots Ghosalkar. After shooting his rival, Noronha ran to the mezzanine of his office and shot herself in the head.

Reports say that Noronha first tried to shoot himself in the room where he was holding the Facebook live session. But the gun didn’t work. Within seconds, he loaded another bullet into the gun and shot himself.

Noronha used the gun of his bodyguard, Amarendra Mishra. The bodyguard’s wife told police that Noronha, upon hiring her husband, asked him to keep her gun in her office. Mishra has been arrested under the Arms Act, which deals with handing over a gun to someone without checking whether that person is allowed to have it.

Noronha fired six bullets, five of which hit Ghosalkar.
