‘India has changed in last 10 years’: Modi unveils projects worth Rs 11,600 cr, in big boost for Assam – News18

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unveiled several development projects in Assam worth nearly Rs 11,600 crore that will help boost employment and tourism in the northeastern state.

Some of the major projects for which the foundation stones have been laid are the Kamakhya temple corridor, the six-lane road from the new airport terminal in Guwahati, modernization of the Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards and a new sports complex. in Chandrapur.

At a public meeting at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, he said. “The inauguration of projects worth Rs 11,000 crore will strengthen the connectivity of Northeast Assam with other South Asian countries. These projects will increase employment opportunities in the tourism sector.” The Prime Minister made these statements after undertaking a tour.

‘Ashamed of their own culture’

Taking a jibe at the Congress Party that earlier ruled the state and the country, Prime Minister Modi said, “After independence, those who were in power for years, even they could not understand the importance of holy places of worship.”

“For political gain, they started a trend of being ashamed of their own culture and history. No country can progress by neglecting its history. But in the last ten years the situation in the country has changed,” he said. “Our pilgrimages, our temples, our places of faith, are not just places to visit. These are indelible signs of our civilization’s journey of thousands of people. “This is a testimony to how India stood firm in the face of every crisis,” he added.


Asom Mala Roads

The Prime Minister also started the second edition of Asom Mala roads. This phase will involve 43 new roads and 38 concrete bridges, involving a total investment of Rs 3,444 crore. Also, Modi laid the foundation stone of a new integrated building of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,250 crore. He also laid the foundation stones of the proposed Karimganj Medical College and Hospital, to be built at a cost of Rs 578 crore and the Rs 297 crore Unity Mall in Guwahati.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the newly constructed four-lane highway from Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, developed at a cost of Rs 1,451 million, and another four-lane highway from Dolabari to Jamuguri, constructed at a cost of Rs 592 million. Modi is scheduled to return after the program on Sunday afternoon.

The Prime Minister landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport from Odisha on Saturday night and spent the night at the state-run Koinadhara Guest House. In Odisha, he laid the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 68,000 crore in Sambalpur, aimed at boosting the power sector involving natural gas, coal and power generation, besides major projects in highways, railways and education sector superior.
