Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary on Friday said the Center won his heart when the government announced Bharat Ratna for his grandfather, former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, will be awarded to former prime ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, along with renowned agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan.
“What previous governments could not do till today has been completed by Prime Minister Modi’s vision. I would like to once again express my gratitude to Prime Minister Modi’s government for encouraging people who are not part of the mainstream,” the RLD chief praised PM Modi.
When asked if he is willing to join the BJP-NDA, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary said: “Koi kasar rehti hai? Aaj main kis muh se inkaar karoon aapke sawalon ko (Is there any doubt? How can I refuse today?),” he said.

Rumors that RLD will join the NDA
This comes amidst strong speculation that Jayant Chaudhary will leave the Samajwadi Party alliance and join the BJP.
When asked about the possible alliance between the BJP and the RLD, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said the BJP knows how to break parties and when to attract whom. He also accused the ruling party of misusing central agencies like ED, CBI and Income Tax.
“The BJP knows when to elect who. It also knows how to cheat. In Chandigarh you saw how dishonesty was committed. The BJP also knows when to buy who. It has become the biggest party and not only that,” the chief said of the SP.
“BJP knows when and what to do. He knows when and where to send ED and CBI and conduct income tax raids and also when to silence which journalist,” he claimed.
“The BJP knows how to break parties,” Yadav added.
When asked about the closeness between the RLD and the BJP, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said, “There are always possibilities in politics and the BJP is a party that works dedicatedly towards Bharat Mata. It is with the people which supports the all-round development of Uttar Pradesh We warmly welcome everyone.”

RLD and SP are already allies for the Lok Sabha elections
The RLD and SP announced their alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on January 19, with the RLD winning seven seats in western Uttar Pradesh.
The primary vote bank for RLD is the Jat population, and it is expected to contest from seats with significant Jat presence such as Muzaffarnagar, Kairana, Bijnor, Mathura, Baghpat, Amroha and Meerut.
Both parties had joined forces in the 2022 assembly elections, in which the SP won 111 seats and the RLD won eight seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the RLD was part of the SP-BSP alliance, contesting Mathura, Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar, but losing all three seats.
