About 10 days after England player Shoaib Bashir found himself in the middle of a visa dispute, his compatriot Rehan Ahmed is battling a similar issue. The spinner was stopped from entering India after he and the rest of the England team members went to Abu Dhabi during the 10-day break between the second and third Tests. According to reports, Rehan was detained at Hirasar airport, Rajkot, because he did not carry proper documentation required for his entry into the country.
According to a report in sports star, Rehan was detained at the airport because he only had a single entry visa. Taking into account the task at hand and the seriousness of the situation, the local authorities tried to find a short-term solution and were able to grant him a two-day visa. However, the England camp has been advised to fully resolve the issue within the next two days.
To put things in context, a person holding a single entry visa cannot leave or re-enter the country.
The English team, however, is optimistic and believes that the problem will be completely resolved in the next 24 hours. Except Rehan, the other members of the traveling team and the support staff of the England team did not face any problem and reached their hotel in Rajkot on Monday afternoon.
“The England team has been advised to process the visa again, which will happen in the next two days. The player has been allowed to enter the country with the rest of the team and will appear in practice on Tuesday,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying. Hindustan Times.
This is the first time that an international flight has landed directly in Rajkot. Therefore, a temporary immigration counter was set up with officials from Jamnagar to monitor the situation. There were a total of 31 members of the traveling contingent from England who were due to enter India and only Rehan faced the visa issue.
Unlike Bashir, Rehan had no problems entering India the first time with the rest of the England team members.
England would like the visa issue relating to Rehan to be fully resolved as there are three more Tests left in the series, with the next one starting on February 15.
