‘If you start playing like this, a question arises…’: Aakash Chopra on Shreyas Iyer’s exclusion from IND Test squad – News18

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra gave his opinion on Shreyas Iyer’s omission from the Indian team during the last three Tests against England. While some reports suggested that Iyer had back and groin discomfort, News18 CricketNext learned that his poor form with the bat, and not his fitness issues, has put him in the firing line.

Iyer failed to cross the 50-run mark in his last 13 innings and looked restless while batting in the first two Tests against England, where he recorded scores of 27, 29, 35 and 13.

Chopra gave his opinion on Iyer’s absence from the team and stated that he looked ugly while batting, which was not the case with Shubman Gill, who also failed in the first three innings of the series but bounced back strongly in the second. Vizag Test entry.

“Reports say he was available for selection because there are three games. So even if he wasn’t available for one match, he could have been for the remaining two matches. So he was available for selection.”

“However, the selectors said they were not going to choose him. Shubman Gill was also in the same boat but he never looked ugly. People said that about Shreyas in the Vizag Test match and what they said was not wrong,” the former India opener said on his YouTube channel.

Speaking further about Iyer’s struggles in the first two Tests, Chopra noted that the middle-order batsman looked shaky while playing short balls.

“In the Vizag match, he was going backwards while playing every short ball. It just doesn’t look good. “If you start playing like that, I’m sure you wonder why he plays like that, because he just didn’t look good,” he added.

Iyer has been a mainstay in India’s ODI team but his form in Test cricket has now become a major concern for the team.

Meanwhile, the former India opener said that the Mumbaikar has to address the problems he is facing.

“Shreyas Iyer had a very good World Cup. I feel his white-ball cricket will continue to be good. The way he bats, he will continue to play very well, but this problem will arise repeatedly in Test cricket until he resolves it completely,” he concluded.
