The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday named the team for the remaining three Tests of the five-match series against England. After the team announcement, disgraced India pacer Umesh Yadav posted a cryptic post on his Instagram story and fans wasted no time in recounting that the bowler was ignored in the England Tests. In the changes to the fast bowling line-up, India brought in Akash Deep, giving a first Test call-up to the pacer. Meanwhile, Umesh remained out of consideration. He last played for India in June 2023, which happened to be a Test match against Australia at The Oval.
“Kitaabon par dhool jamne se, kahaaniyan khatm nahi hoti (Stories do not end with the dust that accumulates on books,” reads Umesh’s Instagram story.
These are some of the reactions:
Star batsman Virat Kohli will also miss the remaining matches against England due to personal reasons. He had previously missed the first two tests. Now, his absence is extended to three more games. His last appearance was in the T20I series against Afghanistan in early January.
“Virat Kohli will not be available for selection for the remainder of the series due to personal reasons. The Board fully respects and supports Mr. Kohli’s decision,” a BCCI statement said.
Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar are also part of the England series. The participation of batsman KL Rahul and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is subject to their fitness, the BCCI said.
Mohammed Shami, who had missed the first two Tests due to injury, remains out of action. Pacer Akash Deep has also been included in the team.
The third Test will begin on February 15 in Rajkot, while the fourth Test will begin in Ranchi on February 23. The fifth and final test of the series will be played in Dharamshala from March 7. The series is currently at level 1-1. After a 28-run defeat in the first Test at Hyderabad, India won the second Test at Visakhapatnam by 106 runs.
