In a long break, talented Indian batsman Ishan Kishan remains away from international cricket since he asked to be released from the tour of South Africa. Although India head coach Rahul Dravid sent Ishan a clear message, asking him to return to playing cricket in some form to be considered for the national team again. But reports suggest that the batsman has only been training with the Pandya brothers at the Reliance Stadium for the past few weeks. The lack of development in Ishan’s case has left former India opener Aakash Chopra worried.
In a video about his Youtube channelChopra hopes all is well with Kishan, considering he had sought a break due to mental fatigue.
“It’s been a long time since Ishan Kishan called for a break. He hasn’t played any competitive cricket. He’s on an extended break. He hasn’t played any first-class cricket either. I really hope he’s fine, he’s fine and in a happy space because had asked for a break due to mental fatigue,” Aakash Chopra said.
As far as Ishan’s comeback is concerned, Chopra doesn’t think it is possible until the player starts playing professional cricket, be it in the Ranji Trophy or some other tournament.
“I think he will get a chance to play for India only after competitive cricket resumes. If he is not going to play for a while, the Indian team will not consider him. Regardless of whether he plays KS Bharat or not You never know if Dhruv Jurel will get a chance or not, or if someone like Jagadeesan comes in, but India won’t approach Ishan until he starts playing competitive cricket again. They will try to maintain some protocols.
“And please don’t ask why Virat Kohli doesn’t play competitive cricket before returning. There is a difference between Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan. Let’s not go down that path,” he further said.
