Social media has expressed shock after a recent video showed President Joe Biden apparently forgetting Hamas’ name while speaking at a press conference. On Tuesday, February 6, Biden was asked a question about the ongoing hostage negotiations between Israel and Hamas. He had just given a speech about a new border security bill.
What does Biden say in the video?
“There’s some movement and I don’t want to, I don’t want to…” the 81-year-old said, then paused. “Let me choose my words: there is some movement, there has been… a response of, uh…”
“There has been a response… from… the opposition, but, um…” Biden said. He seemed confused about what he meant, and finally said, after receiving some guidance: “Yes, sorry, Hamas.”
‘Shame on all of you who pretend everything is fine’
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), who is challenging Biden for the Democratic nomination, shared the video. “I get attacked for being honest and saying the quiet part out loud, the part that DC insiders only do in private,” Phillips wrote in X. “I admire our president. I voted for him and campaigned for him. He has visited my home and been kind to my family and our country.”
He added: “But it’s a shame that you all pretend everything is fine. You are leading us (and him) to a disaster, and you know it very well.”
Sky News American correspondent Mark Stone expressed surprise. “It was pretty clear that he couldn’t remember the word ‘Hamas’ and he had to be alerted by a member of the media who was at the White House,” Stone said.
“This is not the first time; many times in recent years, he has stumbled over his words, and I think people, rightly or wrongly, see it as more than just a stuttering problem,” he said.
“This is happening a lot and I think it’s, you know, a reflection of his age,” he added. “There are so many people in America and beyond who are concerned because this is a man who will not be able to fight in this brutal election that is coming up.”
Biden is the oldest American president to hold office.
‘He is not well’
Social media users reacted to Biden’s video, with one user saying: “It’s sad to see and scary at the same time. “I am not a supporter of Biden because of his policies and his time in office, but what is happening is terrifying and, frankly, elder abuse.” “I was a nurse in an Alzheimer’s unit in Florida… I know what I’m seeing,” said one user, while another wrote: “We have a minimum age to be president, why not a maximum age? “Either eliminate age discrimination entirely or establish an upper and lower threshold for the role of Congress, the Senate and the Presidency.”
“He belongs in a nursing home, not WH. 25 Amendment now. “I challenge you,” he said while a user, while another wrote in part: “I’m so tired of all this…he is not okay and CANNOT be POTUS. I see attacks on “Maga” all the time, with insults like “he’s a cult”… but as an independent… I see just as much “sect” propaganda coming from the left… if not more.
